Horgenglarus: Factory visit

The same passion since 1880...

...and a century-old technique that hasn't changed! That of bending solid wood, used to manufacture the backs, frames and legs of the chairs of the Swiss brand established in Glarus for over a century.

All the employees are certainly passionate about their work! They work the wood from the Jura with perfectly mastered gestures...and the same smile on all their faces!

The wood is steamed before taking shape in the bending machine. It is then placed in a large oven fed by the wood shavings from the cutting process. It will remain there for a fortnight in order to get rid of the moisture gently, and thus regain its stability and strength, making it an ideal material for very strong chairs and tables.

These pieces are then hand-sanded until the wood is velvety soft, and then lacquered, oiled or soaped as required.

Horgenglarus' sustainable manufacturing process is based on three pillars: the timelessness of the collections, quality production and the use of regional materials.

The result? Chairs and tables designed to last for a short time, bearing the guarantee 'Handcrafted in Switzerland since 1880'.
