The Mikado chair, designed in 2024 by Edward Barber & Jay Osgerby for Vitra , is a versatile chair with a serene appearance that doesn't want to impress with its form, but with its comfort. Designed by the duo for dining rooms, restaurants and conference tables.
Mikado offers superior comfort thanks to an ingeniously simple mechanism that allows the backrest to move subtly. Hidden beneath Mikado's seat, an ingenious mechanism ensures a slight tilting movement of the backrest. This flexible seating experience combined with the upholstery on all sides of the chair offers exceptional comfort. At the same time, the chair's modular parts make it highly durable.
By using different materials and colors for the chair, Mikado achieves a new look: the upholstery can be easily removed for cleaning or replacement by the Vitra team, and the legs can also be replaced, extending the life of the chair. And when the Mikado reaches the end of its life, the individual parts, many of which are made from recycled parts, can be separated for recycling or disposal.
