Avoiding both pure functionalism and excessive fantasy, we sought a form so simple that it seems to result from natural evolution rather than simple design. After hundreds of sketches and prototypes, we came up with this shape. The “leaves” provide perfect support for coats, and the arms can also be used as hangers. The base, coat hooks and optional umbrella ring are cast aluminum, while the stem is extruded aluminum, giving the whole unit a natural gloss finish,” explain Edward Barber & Jay Osgerby.
