PK23™ – The timeless elegance of Poul Kjærholm

The PK23™ chair is an iconic piece that is part of the Danish design heritage. Designed in 1954 by Poul Kjærholm, it had remained in the sketch stage until now. With its wide, low profile, designed to encourage a relaxed posture and pleasant conversation, the PK23™ embodies a minimalist and refined approach to furniture.

Its design is based on a subtle construction: laminated veneer shells, available in black-painted ash, walnut or oak, are elegantly separated into vertical sections and connected by a sophisticated fastening detail. This aesthetic signature emphasises the balance between pure forms and discreet technicality, true to Kjærholm's vision. The chair rests on a stainless steel base for all finishes or on black painted steel for the black ash version, guaranteeing perfect stability and a resolutely modern style.

Heir to the PK4 and PK0 models, the PK23™ marks a key stage in the evolution of Kjærholm's work, heralding the architectural purity and structural research that would define his future creations.

Poul Kjærholm – Attention to detail, passion for materials. Trained as a cabinetmaker before studying at the Danish School of Arts and Crafts, Poul Kjærholm always had a unique perspective on materials. His approach combined the rigour of Scandinavian design with a fascination for steel, which he considered to be a material as noble as wood.

In 1955, he began working with furniture maker Ejvind Kold Christensen, an alliance that would give rise to pieces that have become iconic. This legacy lives on today, bearing witness to Kjærholm's timeless vision.
