Designed by Julie Richoz, Matiz reinterprets traditional weaving techniques through a colouring process applied after weaving. Each piece begins with a hand-woven monochrome base before receiving a contrasting dye applied by hand, allowing the pigment to interact directly with the woven surface.
The composition combines 65% hand-spun Afghan wool and 35% New Zealand wool. Afghan wool comes from sheep raised in the mountains of Afghanistan and is characterised by its durability and the natural irregularities of its yarn. New Zealand wool is recognised for its natural purity and softness.
Presented during CPH 3daysofdesign 2026, the MATIZ collection highlights the interaction between manual dyeing and the structure of the hand-loomed Dhurrie, creating colour variations that develop naturally within the fibres.
