IXA Reading Floor

Inspired by Alexander Calder's dynamic sculptures, the design interprets the idea of "elegant balance" through precision engineering. Ixa is a complete, cross-disciplinary family, based on the intelligence of a directional spherical head with rods and counterweights that allow space to be illuminated and lighting to be moved freely to define functional, dynamic lighting scenarios. It's an intelligent, progressive principle that allows the Ixa family to expand with new versions. A larger head is combined with two new structures - wall and ceiling - set to balance weight and illuminate space to meet different lighting needs. Ixa brings light where we need it, inviting us to a physical interaction with the object that makes us the conscious authors of our light surface, inviting us to adjust it to our requirements. Ixa is the expression of functional, productive and sustainable intelligence, through choices of reduction and simplification born of deep conceptual know-how. Artemide and Foster+Partners share a deep-rooted approach to sustainable design that enables all phases of the product to be developed, and declares itself to be an essential value of the project.
