Created in 1956 by Jean Pauchard, the A56 chair has established itself as one of the great classics of 20th century furniture. Originally designed for cafés and terraces, it embodies an approach to furniture that is functional, robust and durable, faithful to the industrial DNA of TOLIX.

In keeping with the A Chair, the A56 armchair incorporates the fundamental principles that made its predecessor so successful: a structure made from folded steel, a clear silhouette and uncompromising formal efficiency. More enveloping, it offers increased comfort while retaining the rigour and sobriety of the original design.

Each A56 armchair is handmade in the TOLIX workshops in France. Stamping, folding, brazing and polishing are carried out by skilled craftsmen, using techniques passed down from generation to generation. This unique expertise, recognised by the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (Living Heritage Company) label, gives each piece remarkable quality and a real soul.

About the finishes:

- Powder-coated steel: Available in a range of natural colours with a glossy finish, powder-coated steel offers a luminous and uniform depth. Applied by powder coating, the paint revives the historic finish of TOLIX furniture and guarantees excellent durability for indoor use.

- Raw varnished steel: Raw varnished steel reveals the material in its most sincere form. Marks, nuances and irregularities bear witness to the manual work and the life of the metal. The varnish protects without altering, preserving the raw appearance while extending durability for indoor use.

- Varnished galvanised steel: Each piece is immersed in a zinc bath at 450°C, ensuring long-lasting corrosion protection. This process brings out a unique galvanisation bloom, making each chair unique. A layer of glossy varnish completes the look, allowing for indoor and/or outdoor use.
