Eames Plastic Armchair | LAR

Eames Plastic Armchair, the multifunctional chair whose shell can be combined with a variety of different bases, including the low-profile LAR (Lounge Height Armchair Rod Base) version.

The LAR seems to have been one of Charles and Ray's favourite models: it can be seen in many early photographs of the legendary Eames House in Pacific Palisades, both inside and out. They also reveal the lightness of the chair and the ease with which it can be moved. Thanks to its compact dimensions, the Plastic Chair LAR can also be used in smaller interiors.

The seat shell of this chair, available in a range of colours, is made from tinted polypropylene, and from 1 January 2024 from 100% recyclable tinted recycled RE polypropylene. The white version (White 04), which cannot be made from the new RE material, will continue to be produced in conventional polypropylene. Like the seat shells of the Eames Plastic Side Chair RE, the white version of the old versions is fully recyclable at the end of its life. Due to the composition of the recycled RE material, the colours of the RE polypropylene seat shell may show very subtle pigment stains.

The steel wire base, which achieves maximum stability with a minimum of material, has acquired a charming nickname on the market in a short space of time, due to its unusual shape: Cat's Cradle - in reference to the children's string game. This classic LAR armchair is a remarkable stand-alone piece of furniture, but can also be combined with many different types of sofa to form an attractive contrast. Particularly in its fully upholstered version, LAR offers long-lasting comfort, making this modestly sized armchair an excellent seating choice for any living space.

Outdoor use: the unupholstered version with epoxy finish base is suitable for temporary or seasonal outdoor use, in accordance with the care instructions. After prolonged exposure to the elements, clean and store in a sheltered, dry place to ensure long-lasting use and prevent any visible deterioration.
