East meets West in Jaime Hayon's playful interpretation of the traditional Asian lantern, expressed in a contemporary style.
Historically, paper lanterns have been present in Asia for centuries, adorning the homes of both the privileged and the less fortunate, each colour, shape and size having its own significance.
In this series, Hayon has abandoned cultural formalities to create lamps entirely in white. Handmade in ivory-white paper and combining various shapes and sizes, these creations include three different versions of lanterns and, as in this case, a table lamp with a black fabric cord and dimmer switch.
