Find out more about this product
The AJ Oxford Table Lamp is both sleek and graphic, reflecting the architecture of St Catherine's College, Oxford, for which it was originally designed. Opened in 1963, St Catherine's College was designed by Arne Jacobsen. Its modernist architectural style contrasts with the classical architecture of nearby Oxford University. The AJ Oxford Table Lamp, originally designed to be mounted and illuminate the college's impressive dining room, which housed long rows of oak tables and could seat 350 people. Acting as centerpieces, the lamps perfectly complement the natural light emanating from the clerestory windows and the general illumination provided by the AJ Eklipta wall sconces. The lamp still illuminates St Catherine's College, which remains a place of learning and houses student residences. The AJ OxfordTable Lamp features a slender base, similar to those in the AJ lamp collection, that blends seamlessly into the circular base. Its graphic style and monochromatic color palette make the AJ Oxford Table Lamp a timeless piece that fits perfectly into any interior. To fit any space, it is available in several versions: with or without a metal top shade and with two different heights. The shorter version is ideal for smaller spaces and looks great on a shelf or windowsill. The taller version is also available with a bracket, in homage to Arne Jacobsen's original design.
