Opened in 1963, St Catherine's College was designed by Arne Jacobsen. Its modernist architectural style contrasts with the classical architecture of nearby Oxford University. The AJ Oxford Table Lamp, originally designed to be mounted and illuminate the college's impressive dining room, which housed long rows of oak tables and could seat 350 people. The lamp still illuminates St Catherine's College, which remains a place of learning and houses student residences.
