Designed in 1966 by the Italian architect, sculptor and designer Angelo Mangiarotti, and later reissued by Karakter in collaboration with Cassina, Saffo reflects his mastery of sculptural forms and materials. Crafted from mouth-blown glass, it emits a soft light whose subtle gradations gradually reveal the transparency of the glass, while the light source remains discreetly concealed within its base.

A leading figure of 20th-century Italian design, Angelo Mangiarotti developed an approach in which architecture, engineering and sculpture come together through remarkable formal simplicity. To this day, Saffo remains an iconic design, equally expressive whether illuminated or switched off.
