Designed by Julie Richoz, Matiz reinterprets traditional weaving techniques by prioritising a colouring process applied after weaving. Each piece is created from a hand-woven monochrome base before receiving a contrasting dye applied by hand, allowing the pigment to interact directly with the woven surface.
The composition combines 65% hand-spun Afghan wool and 35% New Zealand wool. Afghan wool comes from sheep raised in the mountains of Afghanistan and is characterised by its durability and the natural irregularities of its yarn. New Zealand wool is recognised for its natural purity and softness.
The MATIZ collection highlights the interaction between dye and the structure of the hand-loomed Dhurrie. This process creates colour variations that develop naturally within the fibres and contribute to the identity of each piece.
