Designed by Vico Magistretti, Maralunga is one of Cassina’s most iconic models. An international bestseller, it is distinguished by its welcoming forms, generous padding and patented mechanism that allows the backrest position to be adjusted instantly.
Integrated into the structure, a simple bicycle chain allows the backrest to move from a lower position suited to conversation to a higher position dedicated to relaxation. This technical innovation, which has become the model’s signature feature, combines ease of use with engineering ingenuity.
In 2024, research carried out in collaboration with the Fondazione Magistretti led to improvements to the internal mechanism, providing an additional 7° of backrest inclination. Each seat is equipped with an independent mechanism allowing individual adjustment and personalised positioning of the backrest.
To mark Maralunga’s 40th anniversary, Cassina introduced an updated version featuring characteristic perimeter stitching (Maralunga 40) together with a fully removable fabric-upholstered version (Maralunga 40-S).
