LAR Eames Fiberglass Armchair

"Charles and Ray Eames' Shell Chairs are among the major creations in the history of furniture. After their initial presentation at the "Low Cost Furniture Design" competition organised by the Museum of Modern Art in 1948, the chairs were launched on the market in 1950 in an armchair version (shell A) and a simpler chair version (shell S) - they were thus the first plastic chairs to be mass-produced. With the launch of this revolutionary creation, Charles and Ray Eames introduced a new type of furniture that has since spread throughout the world: the multifunctional chair, whose shell can be combined with a variety of different legs. As early as 1950, they introduced a series of bases dedicated to different seating positions, including the LAR (Lounge Height Armchair Rod Base), with a geometrical steel wire base that quickly acquired the charming nickname "Cat's Cradle", in reference to the children's rope game. The LAR seems to have been one of Charles and Ray's favourite models: it can be seen in many old photographs of the legendary Eames House at Pacific Palisades, both inside and out. They also reveal the lightness of the chair and the ease with which it can be moved. Available from March 2020. Thanks to the organic shape of this classic armchair, LAR is a remarkable piece of single furniture but can also be combined with many types of sofas to form an attractive contrast. LAR is available as Plastic Chair LAR with a polypropylene shell or as Fiberglass Chair LAR with a fibreglass shell that draws attention to the lively texture so appreciated by connoisseurs. The fascination of fibreglass lies in its irregular surface, whose clearly visible fibres give it an almost natural appearance. The Fiberglass Chair LAR is not available with cushions or padding in order to highlight the unique characteristics of this material and thus achieve maximum effect.
