Table Podia

podia is an extremely flexible table system that allows you to design models in almost any possible size and shape. The cast iron legs are suitable for tables over 1.20 metres wide, as well as for large round tables. This variability is unlimited: in addition to the classic square and round tables, free-form designs are also possible. In this way, the wishes of many architects are finally fulfilled.
These different shapes are possible thanks to the cast iron legs, which are mounted on the outside of the tabletop with the help of a T-shaped front plate that does not require spacers. A simple and convincing solution. The simple and precise shape of the podia table can thus be combined with almost any chair and harmonises perfectly with modern glass, steel or concrete constructions.
The combination of cast iron legs and a solid wood tabletop is typical for horgenglarus and refers to the traditional craftsmanship designs of the 1920s and 1930s. With its 45° sloping profile and slightly curved surface, the podia table leg is perfectly suited to cast iron manufacturing techniques.
From 2020, horgenglarus is launching a second version of the podia table leg. The design of the system remains the same, but the legs are moulded in a V-shape with a 48° angle. Also with this model, the profile of the support is inclined at 45° and the surface is slightly curved. A front plate with three projections is moulded onto the head of the stand so that the legs can be securely fixed. The design of this table offers plenty of legroom and flexibility in the length. In width, the table top varies between 700 and 950mm.
All podia table legs are manufactured at the foundry in Chur using a traditional high quality sand casting process. Each leg is treated with an anthracite lacquer and on the side, the brand name of the company horgenglarus appears discreetly. Although the legs are relatively thin, the weight of the cast iron gives the podia tables excellent stability.
Custom-made finishes are a speciality at horgenglarus. The 30 mm thick podia table tops are made individually from solid wood and in the desired dimensions. The application of a principle dating back to the 17th century ensures that the flatness of the wooden table tops is permanently preserved: a groove is milled on each top, into which a stop profile is inserted. Thanks to this handcrafted process, it is possible to manufacture large tables without a central support.
The tables are optionally available in beech, oak, cherry, ash or black walnut. The surface is sanded by hand until the wood is soft as velvet and then lacquered. It can be stained, oiled or soaped on request.
